Jeffrey Mishlove describes his childhood interest in astronomy and then focuses on contemporary cosmology. He notes that it is believed that space itself is expanding faster than the speed of light. This implies that there are parts of the distant universe beyond any possibility of conventional electromagnetic communication. He ponders the implications of thse circumstances for the field of consciousness.
